Message - The Storm Cellar

In certain parts of the country Storms are a frequent and often tragic natural phenomena. It is not unusual to see devastating hurricanes and tornadoes in these places. These deadly storms have unfortunately become a way of life for the people that inhabit these regions. There are certain Midwestern states that  frequently have devastating weather systems. The People who live there often build storm cellars underground near their houses so that they can quickly reach safety when a dangerous weather event occurs. I think that we can also learn something important from the Storm Cellar.
We should make sure to have a Storm Cellar in our own life right next our house. The Bible says in Psalm 91:2  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.I want you to notice those two words refuge and fortress, they are very relevant to this discussion. The word refuge implies a place that is secure, a place that is protected, and a place where a person can turn to for protection. This protection includes any conditions, situation or circumstances that might try to oppose that individual. The Fortress is a military structure, it is a stronghold and its primary purpose is to protect the people that enter it from the attacks of the enemy. This is what the Lord is. He is our refuge and fortress. The Lord is our Spiritual Storm Cellar in whom we can always trust, when the Spiritual Storms of trial and temptation come into our life. The disciples in the Gospels were fearful when the storm descended upon them but Jesus was in the boat, he got up, and he spoke to the Storm. Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.  And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”  But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. Matthew 8:23-26. All that we have to do is turn to Jesus when the storms come. First we must be able to identify the door, Jesus says I am the way, Jesus is the only way into this shelter. We must also bring with us the Light, because Storm cellars are underground and it is dark Jesus declares I am the Light. Finally we must we willing to descend the steps and put our trust in him as our only source of protection, so that when the Evil day of our storm comes we will be safe within the Rock of our salvation Jesus Christ. In other words we must humble ourselves and rely on Jesus Christ as our Shelter. If we wisely choose Jesus Christ as our fortress then even though the Physical House (our body) may  be torn apart by the winds (trials, temptations, and persecution) but the Eternal House (Soul) will not because it  is not of this world, it abides with Christ in Heaven, and it will stand for all Eternity...
